Multi Diameter/Dual Diameter Disc Pigs
Multi Diameter or Dual Diameter Disc Pigs come in many different configurations depending on the features of the pipeline, and depending on the specific function they are to perform.
In most cases Piggability Reports or desktop studies are undertaken to address all technical and operational issues of pigging the specific pipeline system in question.
Once the initial concept study is complete it may be decided that Piggabilty Testing/Trials are required to prove the pigs are fit for purpose, and to ensure the pig can negotiate specific pipeline features.
Multi Diameter Disc Pig
In cases where the diameter change in the pipeline is small it may be that a simple change can be made to the disc configuration to enable the pig to negotiate the system. This could be slotting of the guide disc, thinner guide disc or a softer grade of material. Sealing discs can be thinner and positioned back to back to enable greater flexibility.
Petal Type Disc Pig
For greater pipeline internal diameter changes it may be that a different approach is required and a petal disc arrangement is required.
Multi Diameter Dual Module Disc Pig
Typically supplied when the length of the pig has to be extended to enable a special feature to be negotiated. The Dual module design allows for more Sealing & Guide Disc options to be fitted to the Pig, along with brushes, magnets or Gauging Plates.
Multi Diameter Disc Pigs c/w Centralised Support Wheel System
When it is not possible to simply use a combination of Guide and Sealing Discs a centralised wheeled suspension system is used to carry the weight of the pig, and to ensure the pig is held central as it traverses the pipeline. The use of wheels also reduces the need for Guide Disc which in turn allows more space for the Sealing Disc configuration.
