Body Mounted Brush Pig

The body mounted brush pig is a robust pipeline cleaning tool featuring brushes mounted directly on its central body. These brushes, made from materials such as steel or nylon, are strategically positioned to maximize cleaning contact with the pipeline walls, effectively removing deposits, scale, and other contaminants. Unlike standard brush pigs with peripheral brushes, the body-mounted design allows for an even distribution of cleaning force, ideal for heavy-duty maintenance tasks. This pig is well-suited for pipelines requiring intense cleaning, as it provides a strong, consistent scrubbing action. It is typically used in pipelines with a consistent diameter and minimal internal coatings.

Where Body Mounted Brush Pigs Are Effectively Used:

Heavy-Duty Pipeline Cleaning: Body mounted brush pigs are highly effective in cleaning pipelines with significant buildup of scale, corrosion, wax, or other solid deposits. The direct mounting of brushes to the pig’s body ensures consistent and aggressive cleaning along the pipeline walls, making them ideal for heavy-duty maintenance tasks.

Removing Hard Deposits: These pigs are suited for pipelines that carry materials prone to hard deposits, such as crude oil, natural gas, or water. The brushes provide the necessary scrubbing action to dislodge stubborn residues that could otherwise restrict flow.

Pipelines with Moderate Bends: Body mounted brush pigs are effective in pipelines with gentle bends or long straight sections, where their consistent contact with the walls ensures thorough cleaning.

Product Separation and Cleaning: In multi-product pipelines, body mounted brush pigs can be used for cleaning and separating different products, as the brushes help ensure that residues are removed, reducing contamination between products.

Where Body Mounted Brush Pigs Are Not Suitable:

Pipelines with Sharp Turns or Complex Layouts: The rigid body of the brush pig makes it less suitable for pipelines with sharp bends, T-junctions, or complex geometries. The pig may struggle to pass through tight curves, leading to blockages or damage.

Pipelines with Sensitive Coatings: If a pipeline has internal coatings such as epoxy or polymer linings, the abrasive action of the brushes may cause damage or wear, making the brush pig unsuitable for use in such environments.

Pipelines with Heavy Obstructions: Body mounted brush pigs may not be effective in pipelines with severe blockages or heavy debris, as their brushes are designed for cleaning rather than clearing large obstructions. In such cases, more robust cleaning pigs like scraper pigs are needed.

Multi-Diameter Pipelines: These pigs are generally designed for pipelines with a consistent diameter. In multi-diameter pipelines, they may struggle to maintain a proper seal in larger sections or could become lodged in narrower sections.
